São Paulo, September 10 (Reuters) - The Chinese delegation is expected to visit the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. The state experienced an avian flu outbreak in May, which has given hope that Brazil may soon resume selling its poultry products to its largest buyer.
The CEO of the world's largest meat company JBS (Z98.F), Gilberto Tomazoni, said at an industry event on Wednesday that the purpose of this visit is to verify the state's health conditions, as the avian flu outbreak reported by the authorities has triggered trade restrictions.
Tomazoni said that China may resume purchasing Brazilian poultry products, but he added that negotiations have not yet been completed after the epidemic was controlled in June. "As far as I know, the Chinese delegation will visit Rio Grande do Sul this month," Tomazoni said. "I believe China will also open up."
When asked whether he believed China would resume purchasing chicken products from Brazil this month, he said he did, but added, "This is something we cannot control." Source: Reuters
