U.S. pork inventories have decreased by 13% year-on-year, and the supply is tightening.

According to the latest Cold Storage Report released by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) of the United States Department of Agriculture, the inventory of frozen pork in the United States was 394 million pounds in August 2025, a 3% decrease from the previous month and a 13% decline compared to the same period last year. 

Among them, the inventory of pork bellies dropped to 24 million pounds, a 8% decrease year-on-year and a sharp 25% drop from the previous month. The inventories of other major parts also generally declined: the inventory of hams decreased by 14% year-on-year, that of trimmings by 19%, and that of offal by 26%. 

The overall inventory of red meat in cold storage was 810 million pounds, a 7% decrease year-on-year. Meanwhile, the inventory of chicken increased by 4% year-on-year to 791 million pounds; the inventory of turkey was 418 million pounds, a 3% increase from the previous month but still a 8% decrease year-on-year.
